hey my name is Ryan Ruhle, I have a 1987 Nissan 200sx.  Vg30de motor swap, tein coilovers, custom suspension fab, headers intake, exhaust, stage 2 clutch, flywheel kit.  Currently installing a roll cage, paint, seats and harnesses.  There's a lot more under the car but just here to introduce myself.

well, choosing the VG30DE was a simple choice because I owned the 200sx SEv6, which had the VG30E already.  So even though there was a lot to update, it was a much more direct swap than many other options.

The reason to go N/A was to build a car targeting certain classes of cars on the track and avoid having to compete against super-lightweight purpose-built race cars.  I'm attempting to use this car to make the move from Auto-x/Track day driver to more competitive forms of auto racing on the track.

Sounds like you've had your head in the SCCA handbook too much which imo limits you a lot. Asr does run a time attack style event but it uses a simple power to weight classification.

more about it here.

If that's too small fish for you then next best offering is nasa in phx. They have the ums time attack which is similar classifcation as well as small bore wheel to wheel.

Also this place is more like the joke forum to troll hellaflush kids and drag racers trying to do left and right turns. If you're serious about driving make an account at www.crucesstreets.com and intro yourself there. Cheers.

Thanks for pointing me in a new direction, I'd like to get my head out of the SCCA rulebook but it's ran my automotive life for years now.  It's not so bad when I was just starting out and competing, but when you started to volunteer and organize, you find yourself  nose-in-book answering questions for everyone and then you wind up memorizing a build that you think has a good chance to be on top for it's class according to what you can afford.

I'll check out Crucesstreets.com pretty soon here, I'm trying to introduce the car and my driving around as much as I can right now.  I really miss Sandia Motorspeedway so if any of you ever head up to that, let me know because that's pretty much home-turf for me.  Should be back late summer 2012 so I'll be looking on getting registered for as many events as possible if purely for testing/tuning the 200.

On another note, the VG30DE runs 222-227 stock hp, With basic bolt-ons, a light flywheel, cluthc, and chip, it should be outperforming a lot of other cars at it's current weight for a fairly low cost.  Sure, I could tear peoples heads off with a DETT package, but for now I just want to get the hang of the 250-300hp car range and see how many people I can put in my rearview mirror.

I'm not sure if Auto-x king is a very lofty goal... I mean, yes it's the best place to learn and get experience outside of a good go kart track but it's still just folk racing at the lowest level.

Actually, I know at sandia that the Karts ran with the bikes... I don't know if Arroyo does the same so I doubt it would run same day... Or same class if it did because it looks like a power to weight ratio formula here (we have to dyno and weigh my car??? I think so.) But all the better for the suspension build and brake setup we have going.
